Our Christmas Concert this year was a little different! The Alresford Community Choir was 'front and centre' and lead the evening, presenting a broad range of carols and Christmas 'fun' songs. As always, the audience was asked to join the choir in singing a number of items, some traditional and some less so... Although there were no other guest singers, there was something for everyone!
We completed our year with another wonderful Summer Concert, celebrating American Music and also the English maritime history and music, with a performance of "Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose!" by Alexander L'Estrange.
Costumed in black, with red and blue 'decoration' we were able to blend into the the red, white and blue pennants, bunting, flags and ensigns, used by John Wesley to decorate the church. "Sailors' Stripes" for the second half took us into Tudor "Ahoy!" costume.
We were delighted and honoured to have been invited to sing during Winchester Cathedral's Flower Festival "Cascades". A large number of us represented the full choir by singing, on Saturday June 27th from 12.30 to 1.30pm, from our wonderful repertoire to entertain those visiting the amazing floral displays. Many of the 'audience' were extremely fullsome in their praise and we received hearty thanks from organiser, Paul Wing, and great praise and thanks from the Dean himself.
Well done to all wonderful singers!
What a great evening we had, performing at St Swihtun's! In the first half, we presented Panis Angelicus, Cantique de Jean Racine, Ecce Fidelis, and You Raise Me Up, and The Song Goes On. In Part two, we joined the massed choirs of Hampshire Youth Choirs and St Swithun's to present Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose and thoroughly enjoyed singing in a very professional auditorium.
Congratulations to all...
